What is a preposition?
“A cockroach!!”
“Where?”
“Right behind you!”
Thankfully with the help of prepositions, we know where the cockroach is! Prepositions tell us where or when something is in respect to something else. Preposition একটি part of speech যা location, direction, time ইত্যাদি নির্দেশ করে। এটি সাধারণত noun বা pronounএর আগে বসে noun বা pronoun এর সাথে sentence এর বাকি শব্দ গুলোর সম্পর্ক প্রকাশ করে।
Preposition word টি দেখলেই কিন্তু hint পাওয়া যায় যে এটি কি নিয়ে।
Pre+position=preposition. Pre অর্থাৎ আগে and position মানে আমরা জানি কোন কিছুর অবস্থান। চলো তাহলে দেখে নেই prepositions কত প্রকার হয়ে থাকে।
Types of prepositions:
Structure and function অনুযায়ী preposition 6 ধরনের হয়ে থাকে, যা তুমি উপরের এই image টিতে দেখতে পাচ্ছও।
Proposition Examples:
Time, location এবং direction এর উপর depend করে prepositions use হয়ে থাকে। নিচের imageএ দেখতে পাচ্ছও কিছু common preposition এর example দাওা আছে যা time এবং place বুঝানোর জন্য use করা হয়ে থাকে।
চলো আরও কিছু common prepositions এর example দেখে নেই,
- In front of- The teacher is standing in front of the board.
This preposition denotes when something/someone is in front of another person/object.
- Between– There is a cold war between the two countries.
Between is used for two objects or things.
- Among- He is the fastest among them.
Among is used for more than two persons/things.
- Across from- She lives across from him.
Across from is used to mean that someone/something is on the other side of things.
- By- Harry potter is written by J.K Rowling.
By is used to indicate a relationship on the basis of a cause between a work and its doer.
- Beside/next to- I like sitting beside the window.
They are sitting next to each other.
Beside and next to refer to an object/person being on the side of something.
Preposition এর basic rules কিন্তু তোমার বুঝে ফেলার কথা। উপরে দেখানো ছবি গুলো একটু মনে রাখার চেষ্টা করলে exam এ আসা preposition গুলো solve করা আর কঠিন হবে না। মনে রাখবে, বেশি practice করলে একটা সময় তুমি এ বুঝবে কোন sentenceএ কোন preposition টি use করতে হবে। এজন্য আমাদের এখানে দেয়া rules গুলোর নোট্স নিয়ে নাও এবং ছবি গুলো মনে রাখার চেষ্টা করো। Best of Luck!!
